As a former employee of Marchant Manor Cheese, and having worked there for multiple years, I have an especially close connection to this particular inspiration.

Plus, my ability to see the inner workings of a small business first hand is really where, for me, the true inspiration resides. I started working at Marchant Manor Cheese after Dr. Kandice Marchant, owner and cheesemaker, started making cheese, but prior to the cheese shop opening. This allowed me not only to see/learn how to make cheese, which I had never done before, but also how to start a shop/business from the ground up. From a female small business owner in Dr. Marchant, I was able to learn about creating relationships with vendors, ordering, stocking, employee relations, event planning, and so much more. I was able to learn, and help with, how to take an idea, a cheese shop, and turn it into a reality.


Dr. Marchant started with a simple idea, cheesemaking, and slowly built it into a business and then into a shop and then into so much more by educating the masses how to easily make cheese. This path shows that starting small, with just the beginnings of an idea, can lead to much bigger things down the road. One doesn’t need to start huge and in turn bite off they can chew. All you need to do is start with an idea, a passion, and then let it grow.
Everything that I learned during my time at Marchant Manor Cheese will help me in figuring out what is next and how I should proceed in turning my idea into a business and then something even bigger.
